My first Burnley match...

Well, as there's very little going on at the moment I thought I'd share some Burnley stories, and where better to start than with my first match.

I was never really aware that Burnley had a team as they were in the old fourth division at the time and I had been taken on a trip round Old Trafford by my dad (who grew up in Blackpool and wasn't really into football). He'd also taken me to Anfield a couple of times because a friend of his had a season ticket which he never used on Grand National day.
Anyway, the clarets had made it to the final of the Sherpa Van Trophy at Wembley and my dad got roped into driving some workmates there in his company car (I think the tickets were a company thing too as we used to get in the sponsors lounge at Turf Moor later on) and I went along too.
The opponents on that day in 1988 were Wolves, who were also in the fourth division at the time. Incidentally, Wolves and Burnley are the only two teams to have been Champions of all four divisions, although Wolves did it first. I know a Leeds (Leeds, Leeds) fan who thinks this isn't a record to be proud of but they would say that 'cos they haven't done it.
The drive down was exiting, seeing all the other cars with their claret and blue scarves trailing from the windows. I got a bit worried when we stopped at a motorway service station and there was a coach load of Wolves fans there, but I was about ten so I don't think they would have done anything.
We got there very early and watched Vintage Clarets V a Wolves Veterans team which the Clarets won. Sadly that was to be the only victory for us that day as Wolves won the Trophy. I vaguely remember Steve Bull playing for Wolves but none of the Burnley players.
I think the game was played on a bank holiday because I seem to remember being back at school the next day and feeling unwell. So unwell in fact, I threw up in my lunch box in the dining hall.

The End.
